What is burlesque?

Burlesque is the new way to feel good about yourself although burlesque is historically a form of cabaret. Modern burlesque is about posture, stage presence, lavish costumes, eccentricity, the art of striptease and much more. A burlesque artiste captivates her audience with beauty, dance and tease. Burlesque is such a wide subject it is hard to tie it down with just a few lines so a simple google search should help you with your quest. Why not search for modern day burlesque belles such as Catherine D'Lish and Dita Von Teese or just visit the blogs of our very own burlesque goddess  Georgina Gale.

What should I wear?

Just wear something comfortable that will allow good freedom of movement. For example, leggings, tights or shorts. We recommend wearing heels as one of our specialities is training people to walk and dance in heels. Please be aware that when we say heels we are not suggesting you should wear 9 inch stilletoes, find a pair of heels that reflect you, try court, kitten or cuban heels or bring a slection of shoes with you so you can determine which best suit your burlesque persona. For certain workshops there may be a specific dressng up theme.

Do I have to strip?

You don't have to do anything that you aren't comfortable with. Some burlesque workshops have a specific emphasis on striptease so if you don't want to strip this may not be the best choice of class. Some students choose to wear mutliple layers of clothes so they can practice stripping without having to reveal anything.

Is there an age limit?

Yes, you have to be over 18 to attend our burlesque classes although we can run private sessions or community activities for those under 18 in posture and self confidence.

How many people are there in each class?

If you attend a burlesque course or taster at our aerial studio then classes will have a maximum number of 15 participants per lesson.

Do you allow spectators?

No, the whole idea of our burlesque classes is that they are private and intimate. To enable participants to gain confidence it is essential that we keep the classes away from prying eyes.

 Can I pay on arrival?

As classes at our Plymouth HQ are limited to 15 participants so you are advised to book in advance, this means paying in advance. You can risk turning up and paying on arrival but remember that places are allocated on a first come first served basis so booking in advance is highly recomended to avoid disappointment.
